Student Support Services
Tutors working in our mixed age tutorial system offer students support on a daily basis. The head of year, as well as Directors of Learning for each Key Stage ( Year 7 to 9. Years 10 to 11 and the Sixth Form ) oversee the work of tutors.
Some students require additional support during their time at the school. There is a range of further support available. For example through our Achievement Centre that works to remove barriers to learning. Such barriers may be medical, emotional, social or linked to language skills. The Achievement Centre coordinates provision for students with Special Educational Needs. Individual learning plans and support programmes are used to help students reach their potential. The Achievement Centre is managed by Mr. McCreedy who is the SENCo.
The school has a range of support staff including the Student Services Manager, Pastoral / Guidance Managers and Learning Support Assistants. Specialist provision is also available through the school counsellors.
In addition, the school works with a wide variety of external agencies. These include the Education Welfare Service, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, a Parent Support Advisor and a variety of specialists in the area of Special Educational Needs.
A number of colleagues work in primary school engagement to ensure that students receive appropriate support when they make the transition from Primary school to Framwellgate School Durham. This involves close liaison with colleagues in the Primary schools.
